History

The Crouse-Hinds Concert Theater is the main stage of the John H. Mulroy Civic Center at the Oncenter in downtown Syracuse. Syracuse.com reported that the theater opened January 15, 1976, with continuous “continental” rows and three seating levels. Wikipedia lists 2,117 seats and calls the stage one of the largest in upstate New York; the civic-center theaters also include the 463-seat Carrier Theater and the 162-seat Bevard Studio, and they house Syracuse Opera. Pollstar gives the theater address as 411 Montgomery Street. (Wikipedia “Oncenter”; syracuse.com, April 1, 2011; Pollstar.) A 2004 Wikimedia photograph shows the Oncenter complex that holds the theater, not the Crouse-Hinds auditorium by itself. (Wikimedia Commons, File:ONcentersyr.jpg.)
