History

The Water Rats on Gray's Inn Road dates from 1878 and counts Karl Marx among its past regulars. Under its old name, The Pindar of Wakefield, it hosted a regular All Time Comedy Music Hall until the 1980s. The showbiz charity the Grand Order of Water Rats bought it in 1986, and the pub took that name in the early 1990s. The Decemberists played their first show outside North America there on 1 October 2004, and new management reopened the venue in October 2015.
