History

The Royal Albert Hall opened in 1871 on land the Great Exhibition's Royal Commission had bought, though Prince Albert died in 1861 before seeing his plans built. Francis Fowke and Henry Young Darracott Scott designed it, and it is Grade I listed with 5,272 seats. It hosted the 1968 Eurovision Song Contest and the Miss World contest from 1969 to 1988. Its great organ, built by Henry Willis in 1871, was rebuilt between 2002 and 2004.
