Map

The Old Church, Church Street, Stoke Newington, London N16 9ES

History

The Old Church on Church Street was Stoke Newington's medieval and Tudor parish church, St Mary's, and became the 'old church' once a new St Mary's opened across the road in 1858. Charles Barry carried out a restoration in 1829, and its bells were cast at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry between 1828 and 1864. Bombed in the Blitz in October 1940, it was quickly repaired, and its interior was remodelled in 2013. It is Grade II* listed.
