History

The Holy Rosary parish was established in June 1885, and its first wooden church was completed in 1887. Construction of the present Gothic Revival church began in 1899 on the same site, and it opened on December 8, 1900. It was raised to cathedral status in 1916, hosted Western Canada's first archdiocesan Eucharistic Congress in 1936, and was consecrated on October 3, 1953, once it was free of debt.
