Grant AME Church traces back to 1833, when the African Methodist Episcopal Church formed a congregation in Toronto. In 1856 it moved from Richmond Street to a hall at Queen and McCaul Streets, and in 1929 it sold that property and bought a larger church at 23 Soho Street.
