History

Ground was broken for the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects, on April 11, 2003, and inaugural celebrations followed in June 2006. It is Canada's first purpose-built opera house, and every Canadian Opera Company mainstage performance since September 2006 has taken place there. Regular performances began on September 12, 2006, with Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen conducted by Richard Bradshaw, and three complete Ring cycles ran that autumn. Wikidata lists its capacity as 2,071.
