History

Colborne Lodge was designed and built in 1836–1837 by City Surveyor John George Howard as a home for himself and his wife, Jemima Frances Meikle. It is named after Sir John Colborne, Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada from 1828 to 1836. The couple deeded the land and buildings to the City of Toronto in 1873, and the Women's Canadian Historical Society restored the house and opened it as a museum in 1928.
