The first cornerstone of the Church of the Redeemer was laid in 1878, and the Gothic Revival building opened for services on June 15, 1879. The City of Toronto granted it heritage status in 1973, and in 1979 the parish was taken over by the Anglican Diocese of Toronto. Concerts there have included two shows by Great Lake Swimmers on April 14, 2007.
