Vanier College was founded in 1970 on land first used for the Village de Saint-Laurent chapel, which opened in 1817. A chapel linking the convent and college buildings followed in 1873, the sisters opened the first college on the grounds in 1897, and the convent's "B building" was added in 1904. In 1933 the sisters opened another college, Collège Basile-Moreau, inside the convent buildings.
