History

Maggie McIver, the "Barras Queen", opened the Barrowland in 1934 in a mercantile area east of the city centre. After a fire largely destroyed it in 1958, it was completely rebuilt and reopened on 24 December 1960. Since 1983 it has been a concert venue for 1,900 standing, with a sprung dance floor. Stiff Little Fingers have played the hall every St Patrick's Day since 1992 and recorded their album Best Served Loud there in 2016.
