History

The Masonic is the auditorium of the California Masonic Memorial Temple at 1111 California Street on Nob Hill. Architect Albert Roller designed the building; construction began in October 1955, and it opened on September 28, 1958, as the Grand Masonic Auditorium at a cost of more than $6 million. The Masons of California use it for their annual meeting, and the rest of the year it is a Live Nation concert hall seating about 3,300 to 3,400. It has hosted decades of concerts and comedy, and after a 2014 renovation it was branded The Masonic.
