Davies Symphony Hall

Grove Street & Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco, CA, 94102

History

Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall opened on September 16, 1980, at 201 Van Ness Avenue, giving the San Francisco Symphony its own home after decades of sharing the War Memorial Opera House. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and Pietro Belluschi designed the 2,743-seat hall. A Fratelli Ruffatti organ was added in 1984, and Kirkegaard Associates completed a major acoustic renovation in 1992. The hall is the symphony’s year-round concert room.
