History
Numbers opened in the summer of 1978 at 300 Westheimer as a gay disco. Texas Monthly reported that Beverly Wren had first run the building as the dinner theater Million Dollar City Dump before that reopening. By 1980 DJ Bruce Godwin had steered nights toward new wave, and in October 1981 the club booked its first live band, Siouxsie and the Banshees, on short notice. Godwin and Robert Burtenshaw took over in 1987, and resident DJ Wes Wallace started the Friday Classic Numbers night in 1991. The club says it is all ages for concerts and 18 and older on dance nights, with a large stage, a patio, and no dress code.
