Royal Conservatory, The / Koerner Hall
Toronto · 273 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON M5S 1W2
Koerner Hall belongs to The Royal Conservatory, which Edward Fisher founded in 1886 as The Toronto Conservatory of Music; it opened in September 1887 on two floors above a music store at Yonge and Dundas. The University of Toronto governed the conservatory from 1963 until 1991, when it became independent again and drew up a plan to renovate and expand its historic building. KPMB Architects carried out that plan in stages, starting with the 1997 renovation of Mazzoleni Concert Hall. The original building, McMaster Hall, was renamed Ihnatowycz Hall in 2005.
