KOKO opened on Boxing Day 1900 as The Camden Theatre, designed by W. G. R. Sprague. It turned into the Camden Hippodrome variety theatre in 1909 and a cinema in 1913, then from 1945 the BBC used it as a radio and recording studio. After the BBC left in 1972 it stood empty until 1977, when it came back as The Music Machine, renamed the Camden Palace in 1982. The Grade II listed building was bought in 2004 and restored under Oliver Bengough and Mint Entertainment.
