A congregation has used this Compton Terrace site since 1806, when it moved into a chapel built by Henry Leroux. The present Victorian Gothic church, designed by James Cubitt, went up between 1874 and 1877 and is Grade I listed. The charity Friends of Union formed in 1981 after attempts to demolish the building, and since 1991 the Union Chapel Project has run gigs and events that help fund its upkeep.
