The Clapham Grand opened on 26 November 1900 as The New Grand Theatre of Varieties, designed by Ernest Woodrow. It moved into films, ran as the Essoldo Cinema from 1950, and housed bingo from 1963 until it closed in 1979, a year after being Grade II listed. The Mean Fiddler group bought it in 1989 and reopened it as a music venue in 1991. Acts on its stage over the years include The Kinks, Chuck Berry, Public Enemy, Oasis and Muse.
