Scala
London · Scala, 275 Pentonville Rd, London N1 9NL, UK
Scala's Pentonville Road building was meant to be a cinema, but the First World War halted construction; in the meantime it turned out aircraft parts and later served as a labour exchange for returning soldiers. It finally opened as the Kings Cross Cinema in April 1920, came back as the Gaumont in March 1952, and in summer 1972 hosted the only UK concert Iggy & The Stooges played while recording Raw Power. After closing in 1993, it reopened in March 1999 with two extra floors added.
