The 1924 building at 497 W. Third St. began as a grocery and hemp warehouse and has held bars for more than 50 years. It was the Hideaway until 2006, when Philip Mudd sold to Harry Sommerville, who renamed it the Green Lantern after a different Seventh Street restaurant run by Virginia “Mom” Haycraft. About seven years later Sommerville sold to Robert Garrison, who in 2017 brought in former bartenders Lindsey Mullen and Erin Thompson and added Tiki Java, a rum-focused bar inside the bar. It is a rock-and-roll dive with a pool table, cheap beer, and live bands.
