Danny Hughes and Joy Johnston opened Loosey’s in November 2010 at 120 SW First Avenue, two months after Market Street Pub was evicted from the same downtown room. Market Street, opened by Ed Cooper in 1988, had been a music-scene institution for 22 years. The new owners named the bar for their dog and billed it as a room for grownups, with a long draft list and, soon, a kitchen built around half-pound burgers. They opened early to catch the crowds in town for the punk festival The Fest.
