The Plaza Theatre at 125 Pioneer Plaza opened in 1930 as a Spanish Colonial Revival 'atmospheric' movie palace, and it originally seated 2,410. It closed in the 1970s and came close to being torn down, but the community saved it. The El Paso Community Foundation led a full restoration, and it reopened in 2006. Today the Kendall Kidd Performance Hall seats 2,050, and the smaller Philanthropy Theatre seats 200.
