Bob & Barbara's
South Street · 1509 South St, Philadelphia, PA
Robert Porter and Barbara Carter opened Bob & Barbara's Lounge in 1969 as a jazz club on South Street. Jack Prince bought it in 1994, and booker Rick Dobrowolski, known as Rick D., that year paired a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon with a shot of Jim Beam and called it "The Special." Nate Wiley and the Crowd Pleasers played for decades, and Miss Lisa Lisa has hosted the Thursday drag show since 1995. Katrina and Oskar Duva later took over day-to-day operations from their stepfather, keeping weekend jazz in the cash-only room.
