Nectar Rorris, who immigrated from Greece in 1956, and two partners bought the former Hi-Hat at 188 Main St. and opened Nectar’s on August 29, 1975, keeping the old chandelier and moving the stage so local bands could play every night. He later bought the business back and ran it until 2003. The downstairs room, famous for gravy fries, was an early home for Phish and a regular stage for Burlington rock, reggae, and other original music. The club closed in 2025 after 50 years.
