The place
Sixth Avenue through Greenwich Village is an ordinary commercial street the rest of the year. On Halloween night it becomes the route. There is no gate and no reserved curb.
The event
The Village Halloween Parade began in 1974, when the puppeteer Ralph Lee walked giant handmade puppets out of his house and up the street. It grew into the city’s public procession: puppets, musicians, dancers, and anyone in a costume. nyc.gov lists the 2026 night as October 31, 7pm to about 11pm, up Sixth from Spring Street to 16th. Watching is free.
