John Barleycorn's

History

The room at 608 E. Douglas in downtown Wichita has been a bar since at least the 1930s, under names including Blue Lounge, Panama Red’s, Velvet Rope, and John Barleycorn’s. In 2015 Alex Thomas (Kirby’s Beer Store), promoter Adam Hartke, and Brian Cunningham bought it from Curt Melzer, who had owned it 15 years, and reopened it on May 28, 2015, as Barleycorn’s, a music room with a stated capacity of 240 standing or 155 seated.
