History

Exploration Place is a science museum at 300 North McLean Boulevard, on the west bank of the Arkansas River in Wichita’s Delano neighborhood. It grew out of a plan to combine the city-owned Wichita Omnisphere and Science Center with the Children’s Museum of Wichita. Moshe Safdie designed the building; construction started in May 1997, and the museum opened April 1, 2000. The project is described as about 100,000 square feet on 20 acres and about $62 million, with a lead gift from Velma Wallace.
