Alabama Music Box

History

Alabama Music Box first opened in 2008 at 455 Dauphin Street, a building that had been Southside Music Hall and then Soul Kitchen (2000–2005), and closed in 2013 after the city labeled it a public nuisance over noise. Chris Schwall and former owner David Mathews reopened it on July 19, 2019, at 12 S. Conception Street. Mathews locked that room on New Year's Day 2024. Bama Buzz reported a Halloween 2025 reopening on Conti Street, with a horseshoe bar, stage, VIP area, pinball, and art installations, still booking rock, punk, metal, hip-hop, and comedy.
