History

Hal & Mal's, at 200 Commerce Street, was opened in 1985 by brothers Harold (Hal) White and Malcolm White, with Albert King on the first bill. The Mississippi Blues Trail marker credits Malcolm's booking and Hal's kitchen, names later shows by B.B. King, Willie Dixon, and Otis Clay, and notes weekly Blue Monday sets with the Central Mississippi Blues Society from 2008 and a 2020 Keeping the Blues Alive award from the Blues Foundation. The marker was unveiled in July 2024.
