The Pinhook

117 W. Main St., Durham, NC, 27701
History
Kym Register, Liz Albrecht, and Nick Williams opened The Pinhook at 117 W. Main St. on election night 2008, after their earlier collective room, Bull City Headquarters, closed. They named it for an early Durham settlement known for drinking and gambling, and they built it as a queer-run, punk-leaning music club with a small stage. Early bills included Future Islands, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Sylvan Esso, and Big Freedia before those acts moved to larger rooms. Register later became sole owner of the roughly 225-capacity club.
