Discovery Theatre, Alaska Center for the Performing Arts

History

Discovery Theatre is the mid-size house inside the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Anchorage. It opened September 10, 1988, the same night as the Sydney Laurence Theatre, before the Atwood Concert Hall’s December 15, 1988 grand opening. The Alaska Center lists 697 seats on two levels (orchestra and mezzanine) and a stage comparable in size to the Atwood, used for theatre, opera, dance, film, and music.
