History

Jazz St. Louis is a nonprofit jazz presenter and club at 3536 Washington Avenue in the Grand Center Arts District, inside the Harold and Dorothy Steward Center for Jazz. It began in 1995 as the Jazz at the Bistro series founded by Barbara Rose and Peter Bunce. Gene Dobbs Bradford took over in 1998; the organization was renamed Jazz St. Louis in 2006, renovated in 2014, and later moved into the Steward Center. Saxophonist Brice Goines succeeded Bradford in 2021. DownBeat named it a 2026 Top Jazz Venue. The two-story room offers table service, a bar, and balcony seating.
