The Heavy Anchor

History

The Heavy Anchor is a South City dive bar and music, comedy, and event venue at 5226 Gravois Avenue in the Bevo Mill neighborhood. Josh and Jodie Timbrook opened it in April 2011 after working in audio production and the music business. It has hosted the Comedy Shipwreck open mic since at least 2013, along with live music and other neighborhood events. On September 5, 2026, a Toyota Land Cruiser crashed into the facade; no one inside was injured, the city briefly condemned the building, and the bar reopened about three weeks later while repairs continued.
