The Saloon

History

The Saloon at 1232 Grant Avenue in North Beach is one of the oldest bars still open in San Francisco. Ferdinand E. Wagner opened Wagner's Beer Hall in 1868 at what was then 308 Dupont Street. When the street was renamed Grant Avenue the address became 1232, and the room was later renamed the Saloon. The wooden bar was shipped in and installed around 1860. Myron Mu, who marked 40 years as owner in 2024, runs it now.
