History
John and Carla Dimitriou opened Dimitriou's Jazz Alley on October 14, 1980, reopening a small University District room whose first operators had already closed. In September 1985 they moved the club to the United Airlines Building at Sixth Avenue and Lenora Street in Belltown. A July 1990 renovation expanded the stage and added a mezzanine, and later work added a new sound system, a tiered floor, and more than 100 seats. The club's history page says DownBeat listed it among the world's top 100 jazz clubs in 2016. Artists who have played the room include Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson, Betty Carter, and McCoy Tyner.
