History

Chop Suey, at 1325 E. Madison Street on Capitol Hill, opened in 2002 when Wade Weigel, Jeff O’Felt, and Linda Derschang turned a former punk club into what the Seattle Times called a swank-rock room, with a lounge, Chinese lanterns, and a wraparound bench. In 2009 the club was sold to the owners of Tokyo’s live room K’s Dream. It closed briefly, then reopened in March 2015 under Brianna Rettig and Erin Carnes, who replaced the wooden pagoda stage with a wider platform and added another lounge. The room still books indie, electronic, hip-hop, and rock.
