History

Lafayette’s Music Room is a live-music restaurant in Memphis’s Overton Square. The venue’s own history says the original 1970s room was a short-lived showcase club that hosted artists including Billy Joel, KISS, Big Star, Barry Manilow, J.J. Cale, and Leon Russell before it went dark. Memphis magazine reported that Beale Street Blues Company reopened the room with daily live music, and that general manager Alex Boggs is the son of the late Thomas Boggs, the first general manager when Lafayette’s opened in 1972. The current room says it can hold about 325 people for a reception and about 275 seated.
