History

The Roxy Theatre opened on September 20, 1973, at 9009 Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, in a room that had been the Largo burlesque club. Lou Adler, Elmer Valentine, David Geffen, Elliot Roberts, and Peter Asher built the roughly 500-seat nightclub, and Neil Young headlined the first three nights. The American premiere of The Rocky Horror Show played the stage in 1974, and the club has since booked rock, pop, and comedy, from Bruce Springsteen and Prince to Pee-wee Herman’s early revue. Adler and his son Nic still own the Sunset Strip room.
