History

Axelrad Beer Garden opened in early 2016 at 1517 Alabama Street, in a building the bar says was a grocery store built by the Axelrad family in the early 1920s. Adam Brackman, Monte Large, and Jeff Kaplan developed it with designer Gin Braverman, and an Axelrad relative who had grown up in the building invested. Houstonia described a dog-friendly garden with a hammock grove, local beer, and slices from next-door Luigi's. OutSmart placed it on the border of the Third Ward, Montrose, and Midtown, and both magazines noted live music in the garden. The beer garden is still at that Alabama address.
