History

The Vic Theatre, at 3145 N. Sheffield Avenue in Lakeview, opened in 1912 as the Victoria Theatre, a five-story vaudeville and movie house. Wikipedia, citing a 1912 Billboard notice, credits architect John Eberson and builders Robert E. Ricksen and Frank Gazzolo. Walt Klein bought and restored the room in 1983; it later hosted ClubLand nights and the Brew & View film series on off nights. Jam Productions now owns the theatre, which holds about 1,400 standing or about 1,000 seated, and books concerts, comedy, and other live shows. The venue’s own site still traces the room from a neighborhood-priced alternative to downtown houses into a long-running Lakeview music hall.
