Far Out Lounge

8504 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX · about 400

History

The stone cottage at 8504 South Congress Avenue was built in 1908 and later held the Red Shed Tavern, which closed in 2018, and the biker bar Beverly's. In February 2019 Hopfields owners Bay Anthon and Lindsay Anthon-Zuloaga, with general manager Pedro Carvalho, opened a cocktail bar called Nicolaza's in the building. They relaunched it in late summer 2019 as The Far Out Lounge and Stage; Community Impact reported that the first outdoor show was rained out and Wild Child played inside instead. The club's website says it was named Best New Venue at the Austin Music Awards in 2020. That same site treats stories of the Newton Gang, Willie Nelson, and Janis Joplin as part of the property's lore.
