Gruene Hall

1281 Gruene Rd., New Braunfels, TX, 78130

History

Gruene Hall, in Gruene in New Braunfels, was built in 1878 by Christian Herry for Henry (Heinrich) D. Gruene. The 6,000-square-foot hall has a tin roof, side flaps that open to the weather, a bar in front, a small lighted stage in back, and an outdoor garden. It bills itself as the oldest continually run dance hall in Texas, is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, and is a contributing building in the Gruene Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Live country, roots, and Texas dance-hall music is booked there every day, and the room appeared in the 1996 film Michael.
