Hancher Auditorium: Club Hancher

Iowa City, IA
History
Club Hancher is the club-style series inside Strauss Hall at Hancher Auditorium on the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City, named in recognition of Sue and John Strauss. Hancher describes it as intimate music and standup with general-admission table seating, an in-room bar, and some standing-room shows. The auditorium itself opened in 1972, named for university president Virgil M. Hancher, in a Max Abramovitz building; after the 2008 flood the original hall was demolished and a Cesar Pelli building, with OPN Architects, opened September 9, 2016. The main auditorium seats 1,800. (hancher.uiowa.edu venues and about pages; Iowa City Press-Citizen, Aug. 8, 2022)
