History

The room at 421 N. 7th Street opened in 1995 as the Electric Factory, when Larry Magid and the Spivak family converted part of a former General Electric switchgear plant into a roughly 2,500- to 2,700-capacity concert hall. The name recalled their original Electric Factory, a different tire-warehouse club at 22nd and Arch that ran from 1968 to 1970. In 2018 The Bowery Presents bought the building but could not keep the trademarked Electric Factory name, and a public contest renamed it Franklin Music Hall. It books rap, electronic, metal, rock, and pop.
