History
Riverside is filed with Scranton at 300 Kennedy Boulevard. That address is not a music room in the city of Scranton. Real-estate listings put 300 Kennedy Boulevard in Pittston, a condominium overlooking the Susquehanna, built about 2014. No Times-Tribune story or concert calendar names a stage called Riverside there. The river music room in the Scranton metro is a different place: the River Street Jazz Cafe at 667 N. River Street in Plains Township, which Rob Friedman opened on November 5, 1993, in a former United Furniture factory. Its history page names Maynard Ferguson, Lionel Hampton, Leon Russell, the Average White Band, Jefferson Starship, and Breaking Benjamin among acts that played the room. (HotPads and ApartmentHomeLiving listings; Times Leader, Nov. 2, 2018; riverstreetjazzcafe.com.)
