Vegetable Buddies

History

Vegetable Buddies, at 129 N. Michigan St. in downtown South Bend, was a roots-music nightclub from 1976 to 1980 that booked blues, jazz, bluegrass and rock, including acts the venue later cited such as Muddy Waters, Canned Heat and New Riders of the Purple Sage. The name and room were later revived for national and local live music. The club’s own site still documents that history and reunion shows; a Yelp listing updated in February 2026 marked the business closed.
