El-Rocko Lounge

History

El-Rocko Lounge was Wes Daniel’s bar at 117 Whitaker Street. The Savannahian reported on January 20, 2026, that it would close for good on January 31 after ten years. Daniel had run Hang Fire, also on Whitaker, from 2006 to 2015. A January 4, 2017, Connect Savannah piece said the Whitaker room had been open about six months and was booking bands and DJs in a 1970s-styled room. Daniel told The Savannahian he named it for an earlier El Rocko Lounge on what was then West Broad Street, now Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, the first bar he drank in as a Jenkins High student.
