History

The State Theatre of Ithaca, about 111–107 West State Street, is the last of downtown Ithaca’s old movie palaces. The 1915 building, designed by Henry N. Hinckley, was an auto garage; Victor Rigaumont converted it, and it opened December 6, 1928, with Paul Tremaine and his Aristocrats of Modern Music. It closed in the 1980s, was condemned in 1997, and was bought in 1998 for restoration. It holds about 1,600 and was listed on the National Register in 1996. (Wikipedia; stateofithaca.org.)
