History

The Webster Theater at 31 Webster Street in Hartford’s Barry Square opened November 19, 1937, as a movie house built by Albert Shulman, the first theater built in Hartford since 1927 and the first there designed for sound pictures. It briefly booked concerts in 1974, went dark from 1985 until Justine Robertson reopened it as a live room in 1996, and now runs a main room and the Webster Underground with a combined capacity of about 1,200. MassConcerts bought it in 2009; Concert Crave bought it in 2023.
