History
The Appell Center for the Performing Arts is in downtown York, Pennsylvania, not inside Harrisburg. Its site says it was the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center, opened April 12, 1980 with Ella Fitzgerald and the York Symphony, in theaters whose story reaches back to a 1906 Theatorium. The board renamed it for the Appell family in 2016 after Louis J. Appell Jr. died. The Strand's centennial season was billed for 2025-26.
